Ryan Reynolds Is The Green Lantern

If you’re choosing between Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds, then you chose wisely. If the Wolverine movie is any example, it will be hard to get audiences in the seats for a character will far less fan base than the steel-clawed weasel. An interesting tidbit that happens to be ten times more interesting than the Green Lantern himself is, if it actually makes it to the screen, Ryan Reynolds will be the only actor to to play characters from both Marvel and DC. After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has settled on Ryan Reynolds as its choice to play “Green Lantern,” the studio’s live-action tentpole based on the DC Comics hero. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test.

The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds’ option would have expired end of day Friday.

One reason for the long search was De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

And after I bad-mouthed X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s popularity, I decided to head over to Box Office Mojo and check the gross. Apparently 36% from Rotten Tomatoes isn’t enough to keep a good weasel down. The film has grossed, as of this post, over $360 million worldwide. Go Green Lantern…
