It Might Get Loud Trailer

The way this trailer is put together makes Jack White look like pure, 100% asshole. A portion of the documentary explores one day with Jimmy Page, The Edge and pseudo tough guy, Jack White. They sit in a well lit studio, surrounded by cameras, their guitars and each other’s opinions. White believes, prior to their meeting, the chemistry in the room could be so volatile that a fist-fight could break out. So, Jack is saying one of two possible things:

  • He wouldn’t have a problem punching Jimmy Page or The Edge in the face if they rubbed him the wrong way.
  • He knows he’s so much of a prick that it’s inevitable two nice men like Jimmy Page and The Edge will become infuriated with his pretentious nature that they kick the shit out of him.

Trailer, pics and more of my rant after the jump.

Who the hell invited this prick to the party anyway? I understand the need to contrast the different generations, but White is a front man who happens to play the guitar. And, I hate to break it to you, but he’s not considered much of a guitar player at all. Producer, songwriter, front man, yes. Influential guitarist, no. He paved his path off a large nostalgia factor and there’s something to be said for that, but in my book that doesn’t gain admission to a Jimmy Page and Dave Evans round table. Not at all. And then there’s his ridiculous hat and bow tie combo straight out of Mary Poppins:

Well, I could go on and on, but regardless of White, at least 2/3 of this movie will kick serious ass. The Edge invites the filmmakers to Ireland and he takes them to the classroom where U2 first met and rehearsed. They go to Jimmy Page’s home outside of London (never allowed before) and Page starts pulling out his favorite albums from his youth – the albums he learned to play guitar from. Pretty amazing stuff.

Here’s the synopsis from Sony Classics:

Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos – The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist’s musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play.

It Might Get Loud opens on August 14, 2009 in New York and Los Angeles and, as of this post, no further release dates have been announced. Visit the official site regularly for updates.
