Let me first start off by saying that this isn’t a bad movie at all. Cliched and formulaic, yes. 33% rotten? I don’t think so. I don’t want this to be a long review, just a quick opinion. The film starts out with two stories, John Connor and Marcus Wright, and they merge in the middle. Marcus Wright is a Terminator sent to infiltrate and locate Connor and his band of resistance fighters. He succeeds with both objectives. When Marcus discovers he’s more machine than man, he also discovers he has a heart (psychically and metaphorically). You see, he was convicted murderer put to death before Judgment Day. When he donated his body to science, those dumb-asses at Skynet apparently misplaced his sociopath tendencies and fucked up their little world domination game. As for Marcus, everything would have been fine and dandy if he hadn’t lost John’s father, a teenage Kyle Reese, to a Skynet concentration camp.

From here, I’ll speed it up:
- Marcus saves Connor and wins his trust
- They both work together and save Kyle Reese from Skynet
- A CG 1984 Arnold pops up in the coolest sequence of the film and scratches the shit out of Connor’s face (reference to James Cameron’s Terminator 2)
- They defeat Arnold, but Connor takes a metal rod through his chest
And that’s about the time when it gets a bit stupid. Connor needs a new heart, his wife happens to be the medic in his company and Marcus Wright has yet another shot at redemption. Maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic and, story be damned, wanted Connor to die. It probably would have been much better if he did.
So that’s my half-assed review of Terminator Salvation, slightly a month after its theatrical release. Regardless of those damn critics, I think we’ll be seeing McG (seriously dude, isn’t it about to time you went by Joseph McGinty Nichol) do a follow-up. It’s 200 million dollar budget has raked in nearly 322 million world-wide as of this post.

Marcus was not a sociopath, harden criminal yes.
His crime was robbery. caused the death of
one or two people, which would mean the death
penalty in Texas. Oops Skynet really screwed up.
