About Last Night… is a comedy-drama film released in 1986. The film was directed by Edward Zwick, and stars Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, and James Belushi. It is based on the 1974 David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago.
Danny and Bernard are two single men who live in Chicago. When Danny meets Debbie at Mother’s, a bar in the Chicago Gold Coast, the two start a relationship from a one night stand. Danny’s life then takes a different turn, and he has problems committing to his life with Debbie, who realizes his phobia with the help of her friend Joan. The film follows the couple from the beginning of their relationship to its end.
Regarding the play:
In 1986, it was adapted as the film About Last Night… with Demi Moore playing opposite Rob Lowe, and Jim Belushi paired with Elizabeth Perkins. The title change resulted from many newspapers refusing to advertise a movie with the original title. Mamet disavowed the movie, ruefully recalling that “as a callow youth with hay sticking out of my ears, I sold both the play and the screenplay for about $12 and a mess of porridge….”
