And if you go to one of the large chains you’ll pay extra $$$. I went to Best Buy, Frys, Walmart, Target, etc… and then ran into a wall because I couldn’t think of another store that sold music. If you’re interested in their Rockband game, it’s in stock at all the locations. If you want to buy the box set, I’d use Amazon, roughly $30 cheaper than all the above.

The Beatles Remastered Box Set from NPR – Mono Or Stereo:

There will be two box sets — a stereo set and a limited-edition mono set that contains everything from 1963’s Please Please Me through The White Album (The Beatles), the last Beatles record mixed in mono. It’ll also include a CD full of mono mixes of the band’s singles.

So why mono? Why, in this day and age, would anyone want to hear The Beatles in one-channel sound?

According to Beatles historian Kevin Howlett, George Martin and The Beatles put the most care into the mono mixes. He also notes a number of differences between the stereo and mono mixes. For example, the mono version of “She’s Leaving Home” has a major change in pitch. John Lennon’s voice on the mono version of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” has a lot of flange effect on it.

If you’re choosing between Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds, then you chose wisely. If the Wolverine movie is any example, it will be hard to get audiences in the seats for a character will far less fan base than the steel-clawed weasel. An interesting tidbit that happens to be ten times more interesting than the Green Lantern himself is, if it actually makes it to the screen, Ryan Reynolds will be the only actor to to play characters from both Marvel and DC. After an intense months-long search, Warner Bros. has settled on Ryan Reynolds as its choice to play “Green Lantern,” the studio’s live-action tentpole based on the DC Comics hero. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test.

The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds’ option would have expired end of day Friday.

One reason for the long search was De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

And after I bad-mouthed X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s popularity, I decided to head over to Box Office Mojo and check the gross. Apparently 36% from Rotten Tomatoes isn’t enough to keep a good weasel down. The film has grossed, as of this post, over $360 million worldwide. Go Green Lantern…

More pictures have been released from Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland remake. These images have been cleaned up from /film via Planet Disney. The pics are Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice with The White Rabbit. They are pretty much the same as released last month, just with a better look at the costumes without an over-sized head on Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Alice in Wonderland is an upcoming 2010 fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and a remake of the 1951 Disney cartoon, an adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novels Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The film will combine live action, motion capture technology and stop motion.

Alice will be released on March 5th, 2010 in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D, as well as 2-D.

I know there are some people out there who are dying to know what the name of the song featured in the trailer for Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler’s latest film, Funny People. Well, I can’t help you a damn bit. Just kidding… The name of the song is “Photograph” by Beatle Ringo Starr. It’s a great tune that he wrote with George Harrison and not to be confused with the equally brilliant song of the same name by Def Leppard. If you’d like to buy it on iTunes, click here. Otherwise, here’s a bit of info on the song from Wikipedia, Funny People trailer, and the lyrics to “Photograph:”

“Photograph” is a song written by Ringo Starr and George Harrison. It was released by Starr as a single in October 1973, reaching number eight and number one in the UK and U.S. singles charts, respectively. It can also be heard on the Ringo album and several compilation and live albums.

On “Photograph”, Starr is the lead vocalist and plays drums, and Harrison plays 12-string acoustic guitar and sings harmony vocals; Jim Keltner (drums), Klaus Voorman (bass), Nicky Hopkins (piano), Vini Poncia (acoustic guitar), Jimmy Calvert (acoustic guitar), Lon and Derrek Van Eaton (percussion), Bobby Keyes (tenor saxophone solo) are also featured. The orchestral arrangements are by Jack Nitzsche, and Richard Perry produced the recording.

After the jump we have the HD Trailer (plus the normal images, synopsis, and cast) for Judd Apatow’s latest film, Funny People. People say that this is Apatow getting serious for a change, but I call bull-shit. Is death and disease any more serious than having a baby with someone you don’t know or being a virgin at age forty? I don’t think so. It’s probably got some great laughs and possibly another Ringo song (the song in the trailer is Ringo’s “Photograph” that he wrote with George Harrison – buy Photograph on iTunes). I look forward to seeing it when it’s released on July 31, 2009.

Over the past few years, writer/director Judd Apatow (The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up) has shown that nothing-not even losing your virginity or the miracle of childbirth-is sacred. Not big news, as Eminem revealed last month he had shot a cameo for Funny People. MTV released a pic today his role, probably playing himself as one of George Simmon’s famous friends. From Judd Apatow’s MTV Blog:

No. Marshall Mathers is in it.

How did that happen?

I still don’t know.

How was it directing him?

I was scared to pitch jokes to him then I realized his songs are as nasty as anything that has ever been spoken. There is no way to offend him.

Funny People hits theaters on July 31st, 2009.
