Love is a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack remix album of music recorded by The Beatles, released in November 2006. It features music compiled and remixed as a mashup for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name. The album was produced by George Martin and his son Giles Martin, who said, “What people will be hearing on the album is a new experience, a way of re-living the whole Beatles musical lifespan in a very condensed period.”

George Martin and his son Giles began work on Love after getting permission from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison (the latter two representing John Lennon and George Harrison, respectively). In discussing the project, Giles Martin noted that elements were used from recordings in The Beatles catalogue, “the original four tracks, eight tracks and two tracks and used this palette of sounds and music to create a soundbed.” George Martin also promised a prize to those who could crack a “code” found in the album.

Giles Martin said in an interview that he was afraid they would not get the green light to do the project, so he started by making digital back-ups of the original multi-track recordings just to get started on the project. He also said that he and his father mixed more music than was eventually released, including “She’s Leaving Home” and a version of “Girl” that he was particularly fond of.[5]

McCartney and Starr, the surviving members of The Beatles, responded very positively to the album. McCartney noted that “This album puts The Beatles back together again, because suddenly there’s John and George with me and Ringo”. Starr commended George and Giles Martin for the album and said that the album is “really powerful for me and I even heard things I’d forgotten we’d recorded.”

The album was first played publicly on Virgin Radio’s The Geoff Show. Virgin Radio DJ Geoff Lloyd, a self-proclaimed fan of The Beatles, chose to play the entire album uninterrupted to allow younger fans to experience an album premiere.

Love placed at #3 in the UK Albums Chart during its first week of release, trailing Westlife’s The Love Album and Oasis’ Stop the Clocks compilation.[9] It was also successful in the United States, debuting at #4 in the Billboard 200, where it was certified Platinum in late 2006. At the 50th annual Grammy awards on 10 February 2008, the album won Grammys in two categories—Best Compilation Soundtrack Album and Best Surround Sound Album.

Love was released as a digital download in the iTunes Store on February 8, 2011. It includes two exclusive bonus tracks.

Beatles Remastered Buy

Tags: , ,

It seems everyone’s sold out of the Beatles Remastered Box Set. And if you go to one of the large chains you’ll pay extra $$$. I went to Best Buy, Frys, Walmart, Target, etc… and then ran into a wall because I couldn’t think of another store that sold music. If you’re interested in their Rockband game, it’s in stock at all the locations. If you want to buy the box set, I’d use Amazon, roughly $30 cheaper than all the above.

Ryan Reynolds Is The Green Lantern

Tags: , ,

If you’re choosing between Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds, then you chose wisely. If the Wolverine movie is any example, it will be hard to get audiences in the seats for a character will far less fan base than the steel-clawed weasel. An interesting tidbit that happens to be ten times more interesting than the Green Lantern himself is, if it actually makes it to the screen, Ryan Reynolds will be the only actor to to play characters from both Marvel and DC. Big Fan Movie Trailer

Tags: , ,

Big Fan is written and directed by Robert Siegel, most famous for writing Mickey Rourke’s role in The Wrestler. It tells the story of a 35 year old parking garage attendant who gets his ass kicked by the New York Giant football player he idolizes at a stripclub. It got great reviews at Sundance and has a nice buzz for a smaller film. It’s release date is set for August 28th, 2009 in the Angelika in New York City and September 11th, 2009 at the Nuart Theater in LA.

I like Patton Oswalt. He’s really one of the more original voices in comedy today and it seems he won’t have a problem convinces audiences he’s a lonely, 35 year old football fan who lives with his mother. HD trailer, synopsis, cast and images after the jump.

Old Dogs Movie Trailer

Tags: , ,

Robin Williams is never spot on when it comes to movie choices. For every Dead Poets, Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting, Fisher King and Survivors you get a Club Paradise, Father’s Day, RV and License to Wed. And don’t get me started on Travolta. At this point, I’m convinced you could have really cast Arnold Horshack as Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction and it would have still kicked ass. Now, let get back to this damn trailer critique.

The bottom line is Hollywood loves to shove recycled garbage down our entertainment-hungry throats for a decent ROI and Old Dogs is no better of an example. This shit-sicle tells the story of… blah, blah, blah. Williams and Travolta are attacked by Frisbee-throwing boy scouts and homicidal penguins, while Seth ‘What’s His Name Again’ Green gets sodomized by a gorilla. If you’re ever faced with a choice between killing yourself and watching this particular movie trailer more than once, put a bullet into your brain. HD trailer, images, cast and synopsis after the jump.

More of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Pics

Tags: , ,

More pictures have been released from Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland remake. These images have been cleaned up from /film via Planet Disney. The pics are Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice with The White Rabbit. They are pretty much the same as released last month, just with a better look at the costumes without an over-sized head on Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter pics after the jump.

Public Enemies Movie Trailer

Tags: , ,

Michael Mann’s trailers always look awesome and his films are enjoyable. Expect blood, explosions, gunfights, car crashes, murder and tits and ass. What else could you possibly desire from a film?

Public Enemies tells the story of John Dillinger with Johnny Depp in the title role and adapted from the book, Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933–34, by Bryan Burrough. The book goes over Dillinger with a fine-toothed comb, but also covers Bonnie and Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly, Ma Barker and others. Questions always linger about the accuracy of bio-pics like these, and the author, who read the film’s screenplay said, “it’s not 100 percent historically accurate. But it’s by far the closest thing to fact Hollywood has attempted, and for that I am both excited and quietly relieved.”

Public Enemies opened in theaters on July 1st, 2009. Also note that the official site, http://www.publicenemies.net/, is damn cool, offers a wealth of historical data and is very much worth checking out. Enjoy the HD trailer, images, cast and synopsis after the jump.

Funny People Trailer Song

Tags: , ,

I know there are some people out there who are dying to know what the name of the song featured in the trailer for Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler’s latest film, Funny People. Well, I can’t help you a damn bit. Just kidding… The name of the song is “Photograph” by Beatle Ringo Starr. It’s a great tune that he wrote with George Harrison and not to be confused with the equally brilliant song of the same name by Def Leppard. If you’d like to buy it on iTunes, click here. Otherwise, here’s a bit of info on the song from Wikipedia, Funny People trailer, and the lyrics to “Photograph:”

Judd Apatow’s Funny People Trailer

Tags: , ,

After the jump we have the HD Trailer (plus the normal images, synopsis, and cast) for Judd Apatow’s latest film, Funny People. People say that this is Apatow getting serious for a change, but I call bull-shit. Is death and disease any more serious than having a baby with someone you don’t know or being a virgin at age forty? I don’t think so. It’s probably got some great laughs and possibly another Ringo song (the song in the trailer is Ringo’s “Photograph” that he wrote with George Harrison – buy Photograph on iTunes). I look forward to seeing it when it’s released on July 31, 2009.
